Born in London 01/ 11/ 1974. Lives and works in Kyoto and London

In my recent works 'landscape' is a pretext to explore notions of cultural phenomena and to push links from the artificial to a primordial past in an attempt to re-establish our relationship to contemporary space and vernacular activity. The narrative within the paintings often confronts an illogical spatial or temporal situation. For example biomorphic forms alluding to images of nature work together with technologically assisted approaches to form a dialogue between the strive for perfection and order and an abrupt and formless intuition. I am also interested in the correlation of anomalous features within the paintings, category errors that allude to the idea of organic and inorganic dissolution whilst at the same time exploring links between distant subjects. Further contrasts appear in the work by constructing spaces, which suggest psychological tension, where there is slippage between inside and outside, past and present. A depiction alludes to a potentiality, a state of becoming (or devolving), occurrences in the urban (and virtual) landscape that enable a moment of transcendence, for example intimations of death or decay lurking in everyday environments contrasted with a material dynamism. This visual 'excavation' below our conventional sight-level attempts to recover the veins of myth and memory that lie beneath the surface- mythic unreason.
